About Us

Isle of Wight Arts Open Studios' main purpose is to bring art to the people and to bring people to the art.

In order to achieve this we have set up a limited (not-for-profit) company run by Island artists.  It is led by Mandy Bangerter, with Richard Hodges, Annie Smith and John Sparrow.  We will organise, promote and advertise Open Studios and other arts events on the Isle of Wight for the benefit of the general public and the artistic community. Entry to all of our events will be free of charge for visitors. The summer Open Studios weekends will for some time represent the main thrust of our work.

The aims of the Company have been expressed as:

  • To encourage public interest in the visual arts and crafts in the Isle of Wight.
  • To promote the importance of local artists to the economic, educational and social well being of the community.
  • To encourage wider public recognition and engagement with working artists.

Isle of Wight Arts Open Studios is a membership-based organisation. This year everyone who participates in Open Studios or who joins as a member (website and Yearbook) will become a member of the company and have a say in the direction that we take in the future.

Each member has their own web-page on this website, showing examples of their work, a profile and contact information. This website is a central resource designed to embrace arts and crafts in all forms, from traditional to contemporary and experimental.  Members are also included in the Open Studios yearbook if they join by early March.  Members who also exhibit have an enhanced listing in the Yearbook, which is published in May in time for the summer Open Studios events.

Together these provide a platform for the work of artists and crafts people based on the Isle of Wight, thus encouraging public interest and providing a wider public recognition and engagement with working artists.
