Wood carving

The Album Cover was a commision, it took several months of planning and work for me to achieve the desired, commissioned result. The timber was European Lime chosen for its stability and suitability. The mask is finished in acrylic paint and is now installed  and greatly appreciated and enjoyed by the client.

Most of my carving is based on the natural world and I spend time choosing appropriate wood and the timber chosen depends on the subject matter and how the wood will react to the chisel.

Some work is turned on a lathe and then hand carved, I use a variety of tools; some power tools but my work is mostly hand carved using an axe and an assortment of files and chisels.
