I paint essentially for pleasure, mainly in oil and acrylic, although I also enjoy gouache and watercolour.

Subject matter is wide and varied, but has to be something in which I have a real interest, for example the Island of course and, as demonstrated, a weakness for steam trains!

Many of my paintings are available as prints and cards, both professionally produced.

I worked in engineering for 40 years before deciding to retire. Although I did art at school, during my working life I found it difficult to find the time for painting and indeed found it required a different mind-set. Although I tried several evening classes over the years (notably with Frank Jacobs in the late 90’s) it was not until after my retirement in 2013 that I decided I really wanted to take up painting again.

The inspiration was an Open Studios exhibition in Gurnard, after which I joined the Cowes Art Group. I joined the Isle of Wight Art Club in 2014, doing live portrait painting in the winter and en plein air during the summer. I am currently Deputy Chairman for IWAC.

During 2020, in addition to exhibiting in OS, I shall be exhibiting around Cowes and at Quarr Abbey with IWAC. I will be at the Brading Roman Villa in May.
