*** Please note that I am opening for the second weekend again this year and I will be sharing my Open Studio with the very talented Angela Sowden again. Please check out her page if you haven't already.

We really missed O/S last year and I think most visitors did too so hopefully we will  have record numbers out this year! It's been long haul! As well as the old faithfuls like the hare wall plaques I am now making some other animal wall hangings plus my usual  animal sculptures I'may be doing some different things before July so watch this space. Once we are allowed I will be back to my regular teaching again at home and at Jubilee Stores (Quay Arts) in Newport. I also offer private tuition and travel to offer workshops elsewhere. I will also be resurrecting the special one off structured workshops at home for small groups (up to 8)  As always commissions welcome.

I grew up in East London and I studied ceramics for 4 years from 1983/1987 at Medway College of Design, Rochester, Kent and have been potting and teaching ever since and love both aspects of my career.  I was always making things from foil sweet wrappers and plasticine as a child and was very lucky to have a fabulous pottery teacher at school that encouraged me to go to art college.   I moved to the Island in 2002 and soon after set up regular weekly classes in my studio at hom

I specialise in wildlife and in recent years have become reknown for my fascination for hares.  I choose to make animals because I have always been passionate about them since I was a child. David Attenborough has always been my hero!

I mostly use a heavily grogged (small grit) stoneware clay. It has a great texture which lends itself well to the sense of strength I try to create in my pieces. The matt glaze I use combined with natural oxides i.e. chrome, copper give a very natural feel to the pieces and enhances the textures. I often choose large animals as subjects as I like to recreate the sense of power for the viewer and describe in clay the wonder I feel when I observe them.
