Marius von Brasch
Works exploring the alchemical relationship between the 'authentic'/'handmade' and the 'dispersed'/digital media in painting, drawing and digital video. Runs also workshops on access to individual creative paths via mark making and painting.
Abbey Fellowship Award for Painting at British School at Rome term 2013/14. Practice-based PhD in Fine Art and MA in Fine Art Painting with Distinction from Winchester School of Art (Uni Southampton).
Marius works from his studio in Rookley/IOW.
Marius' works deal with the idea of 'transformation' or 'process', which he understands as relating to individual and historical layers and fragments of the 'self', 'memory', 'force', 'time', 'otherness'.
His practice engages painting, mark making and the digital in drawing/painting/digital video. It juxtaposes the ‘hand-made’ and the ‘dispersed’ (digital media) and references frequently myhtological themes and historical source images (for example alchemical book illuminations and, more recently, baroque paintings).
