Martin Swan RSMA
Oil painting, largely landscape and marine, but increasingly interested in abstract painting.
Island born and still in residence.
BA Hons in Philosophy. Post Graduate Certificates in Biblical Studies and Education.
Self-taught as an artist. Initially painted in watercolour, landscapes mostly; then moved into marine painting, attracted by the abstract qualities of boats and light effects of sky and sea. Elected a member of The Royal Society of Marine Artists in 2005. I am now vice-president of the RSMA.
Now paints in oils, still mostly marine and landscape, but am also interested in abstract painting, together with the occasional nude and portrait, both human and animal.
With the RSMA. Annually at The Mall Galleries, London. Also at The National Maritime Museum, Greenwich; St Davids Hall, Cardiff; Portsmouth Cathedral, and other galleries from Cornwall to Yorkshire.
Others. Jonathan Grant Gallery, Auckland, New Zealand; Bankside Gallery, London (Royal Watercolour Society); Michael Hawker Gallery, Amersham; Sea Pictures Gallery, Clare, Suffolk: Robert Perera Fine Arts, Lymington; Kendalls, Cowes; Quay Arts, Newport.
My paintings are represented in private collections all over the world, including that of the Sultan of Oman.
