Artist Feature on...Sue Paraskeva

Tucked away in the heart of Ryde, one of the Isle of Wight's main towns, you will find the working studio of artist and potter Sue Paraskeva.

Sue has been making beautiful objects that are both pure and organic in form for many years. Each piece is unique and individual and are created using a stick driven momentum wheel to create her fine cylindrical forms.

This is a process most commonly known and used in Jingdezhen, China, the porcelain capital. The wheel requires no electricity- ensuring a serene environment for Sue to create.

Sue's pieces are refined during throwing and decorative marks are applied using wood ash slips, colouring oxides and inlayed clay, to produce the individual and unique objects. The forms are inspired by industrial landscapes of the North East and the marks have evolved from line drawings of the landscape.

Sue now produces a collection for Calvin Klein homewear along with other commissions.
