Description
Following a teaching career in Art and Design, specialising in Textiles initially to adults and later to children with profound and multiple learning difficulties I have recently changed direction to focus on textiles. At the present time,my work is evolving with natural dyeing, print and stitch. This now forms the base point and relates to both the ever changing coastline and my current travels in Japan and China interpreted through indigo dyeing and rust printing together with botanical print to release images for stitch. In 2017, as Artist in Residence at the Botanic Gardens in Ventnor I had the unique opportunity to develop Natural Dyeing. Using selected varieties of eucalyptus, of which there are 37 in the Gardens I embarked on an experimental programme with Eco Printing. This is now continuing in 2019 as have been invited to return and continue with this research. In 2018 I worked as joint Artist in Residence contributing to the 'Threads' project in Ryde - the final textile piece now on permanent display in the library. My work continues to develop through the exploration and combination of Indigo and Shibori resist, Rust dyeing together with Natural dyeing. Examples of all the different processes will be on display at my Studio which is also open for appointment outside the Open Studio event to include works for sale - aprons, bags, scarves and wall pieces.
